Knitted Blanket

I love knitting and crocheting! (I actually love many other types of needlework too, but at the moment I’m all about things knitted and crocheted.) The idea of twisting and looping yarn in different ways to create something totally new fascinates me. There’s a real sense of achievement in taking a few balls of wool and knitting or crocheting them up into a new creation. And in these chillier winter days at the moment there is nothing quite as warm as a hand knitted or crocheted blanket.

My project at the moment is this knitted baby's blanket. It’s a super simple pattern and is suitable for even a beginner knitter. I just love the colours that I found to do it in!

Materials you will need:
- Circular knitting needle size 4.50mm (7 if you’re working in imperial)
- Different coloured Double Knit yarn in colours of your choice.  I used Elle Baby in:
       - Apple Green
       - Pink
       - White

The type of stitch that this blanket is knitted in is called a "Farrow Rib". It's done in multiples of 3 stitches. So when you cast your stitches on to your circular needle you can cast on as many as you like to make whatever size blanket you would like as long as the number of stitches is divisible by 3. I used 180 stitches.

The very simple pattern is to knit 2 stitches and pearl 1 and repeat until the end of the row (knit 2 pearl 1, knit 2 pearl 1 etc etc.) The next row (and all the rows that follow) are exactly the same…knit 2, pearl 1. Easy Peasy!

For my blanket I decided to do stripes of each colour. I knitted 18 rows of each colour to make a stripe and I did 16 stripes, starting and ending with a green one. You can do any combination you would like to though. The finished size of my blanket is 0,75m x 1m.

To finish my blanket off I crocheted a very simple border around in green. You don’t have to do this, I just like the way it neatens the edges.

Happy knitting!
